Halloween to Bowl
This Halloween was absolutely splendid! I hope everyone got a little extra gunpowder in their roman candles this year. I think the Halloween Show was the most fun we've had on the radio yet.

Here lies the haunted playlist:
- King Horror // Loch Ness Monster
- The Bomboras // Night of the Bomboras
- The Shaggs // It's Halloween
- Kido Natsuki // Disco Space, Baby

- The Mongols // Sleepwalk
- The Ghastly Ones // Ghastly Stomp

We also played the following movie trailers: Carnival of Blood, Curse of the Headless Horseman, and Frankenstein's Castle of Freaks.

I finally got the recording of the show figured out. Well, almost. It's maybe a bit loud this week and I forgot to turn it on until after the first song. Anyway, check the sidebar on the right for the link.

The Icing

I'd like to say a big thank you to all my friends that I got to spend my birthday with--in one way or another.
Whether it was singing happy birthday in German, dancing your ass off, drinking your ass off, laughing louder than everyone else in the movie theatre, eating vegan treats, or indulging in Denny's or even just having the same birthday...

Never Cry Wolf
So they let us back on the radio. We were able to play lots of vinyl today thanks to Patrick's nimble turntable cueing. I worked the board, making sure that the levels were totally in the red all the time and otherwise caused havok. The playlist:
- No Border - Mind of Asian
- The Leather Uppers - She Digs Death (For Wally!)
- Lysergic Bliss - Of Montreal
- Stupid Stupid - Tiger Shovel Nose
- Terms of Reference - Champion, Alberta
- Pure Evil - P:ano
- The Silent Hero - Icy Demons
- Great Ghosts - The Microphones
- Ema - Loscil
- Get Up Lucy - Thee Michelle Gun Elephant
- Monument - Sleepy Township
Lots of short songs so we had to kill time by talking about pant suits, acid, tropical fish, The Chronicles of Riddick and wolves. We discussed wolves at length.
Here's the link to P:ano playing their new single, Pure Evil on ZeD TV. Dressed in fisherman slickers. And here's more P:ano, this time doing The Noni Song. I love the awkward "vibe" they have with the host, Sharon Lewis, and the way they project visuals onto the surface of the piano.
And while I'm at it, here's a bit of background on the legendary Leather Uppers who are back together and playing a few shows in Toronto this month.
The proto-primitive garage rock duo known as the Leather Uppers was founded in 1991 in Toronto, Canada by Greg Tymoshenko and Craig Daniels. Born out of the malaise and fatigue brought on by the post-metal, pre-grunge musical vacuum of the time, the Uppers opted for a bare-bones drums, guitar and vocal-based sound. Their outrageous 60's/70's-inspired matching stage costumes were clearly as much at odds with the "cool" styles of the time as their incredibly energetic, stripped-down brand of "panic rock" was.Over the next three years they would tour the US and Canada extensively, release several 7" records and one still-classic full-length album. In 2002, their
album, "OK, Don't Say Hi", was re-released on Austin, Texas' Pantsuit City Records. The re-issue of this record led to three reunion shows in the spring and summer of 2003.-You Drive Me Ape Fanzine, March 2004. via Toronto Comic Jam Discussion Group
Thanks to everyone who tuned in today. We'll be back again next Wednesday from 2 to 3 PM and maybe longer cause no one ever shows up after us. For Vancouverites, it's 90.1 FM and for out of towners, you can listen online (a bit crackley).

Radio on the Radio
Patrick and I just did our first on-air session at CJSF, our campus radio station. Here's what we played:
- Unseasonably Sad - The Heavy Blinkers
- Cold Water - Old Time Relijin
- Guerino et Son Orchestre Musette... (feat. Django Reinhardt)
- Toyte Goyes in Shineln - Black Ox Orkestar
- Brother - The Organ
- Foot to Mouth - The Sleazy Listeners
- Psych Mo-Fo - Mixel Pixel
- Super Mario 2 (Underword + Overworld) - The Advantage
- Physics of a Unicycle - cLOUDDEAD
- Oublier et... Doucement REPARTIR - aMute
It was a bit nerve-racking doing live radio for the first time but man, it felt good pressing play and seeing the needle go into the red as someone says the f-word on FM. In addition to playing 50% Canadian content, one song in French and one in Yiddish, we played a little set of video game music. If you haven't already, check out The Advantage who play excellent Nintendo songs on guitars and drums.
If you'd like to tune in, we'll be on at 2 PM on Wednesdays until further notice. You can listen online or at 90.1 FM in Vancouver. Another show to check out is AttentionSpan hosted by my friend Colleen. It's on at 10 PM to midnight on Thursdays.
For more good radio, check out Venus, Emily's show on CKUT Montreal. It's on at 12 to 2 PM Eastern (9-11 AM in Pacific Time) every Thursday. Or you can download an mp3 of the show any time from the archives.
Patrick sent me a link to Tony Coulter who hosts an experimental music show on WFMU New York. On the site, you can actually download the individual tracks and browse playlists.
Please send me links to your favorite radio shows!
