Wham Wham Wham
Mp3 blogs, like Popsheep or Said the Gramophone, and podcasting are among the best ways to promote music even though it is illegal to do so. From now on, this site is an mp3 blog too, although I won't be posting tracks very often.
Just in time for Halloween, I want you to hear Kim Addonizio reading her poem Night of the Living Night of the Dead. No Halloween playlist is complete without it. You can also hear her read from her first novel, Little Beauties.
Some people claim that hearing an author's voice is inevitably disappointing because it interferes with the way one mentally "hears" a book. However, Addonizio's voice works perfectly with her material and I even find the Addonizio effect livens up even the most mundane reading. Try reading your next office memo the Addonizio way!

The Golden Age is Always
Patrick has a new radio show, The Psychedelic Strange, broadcasting live from Norwich, England, every Friday from 2:30-4:00 PM PST. I can't believe I missed the Halloween show because I did the GMT to PST math backwards! I'll be recording it from now on.

Resuscitate
Josh is focusing more on Flickr than blogging...
I agree with Josh that Flickr is better for us casual bloggers who just want to share things (mainly photos) with friends and family--and the occasional voyeuristic stranger. I started this blog 5 years ago because I wanted to show my friends some pictures from a Sleater-Kinney show. I didn't plan on doing much writing but the fragmentary style of blog posts turned out to be very compatible with how I think. And I liked the fact that I could go on hiatus whenever it felt like a chore.
Lately, I've been meaning to resuscitate this blog. I thought about posting a mini-essay about iPod hysteria that I wrote for a class but decided it would work better as a podcast (still haven't gotten round to recording it though). Like Flickr, podcasting is a good alternative to blogging for staying in touch because speech can be more spontaneous and less edited than the written word. And it's certainly a lot easier on the eyes because you don't have to be parked in front of a squinty monitor--you don't even have to be online.
Because it's harder to index pictures and sound, text is still the best way to connect with the multitude of Google searchers out there. Unfortunately, they seldom write back even though you might share the same esoteric interestes such as "vaccum tubes vintage."
