Podcasting
I decided to resurrect my campus radio show as a podcast. No more taking the bus up to campus, no more PSAs and no more station IDs. Here is the HTML link (for web browsers) and the XML link (for aggregators).
The first episode features an interview with Joel and Jeff of Joel and the Last of the Neighbours. We discussed their upcoming album (4 CDs!) and tour.
Old episodes of the campus radio version of the show are up there too.
Happy listening!

Nintendo Pencil
I'd like to thank the sponsors of Vidfest 2005 because I must be the only one left who hasn't done so already.
Who I really want to thank are (in order of bizcard appearance): Will, Ana, Weston, Elliott, Jon, Heather, Jillian, Greg, Roland, Will P., Jennifer, Jessica, Elizabeth and all the other lovely people that I met at the conference.
I am reminded of something I read in Jason Kottke's SXSW 2005 Adventures about an overhead conversation: "'here's how I met Marc Canter for the first time: I'm standing outside at a conference, he comes up beside me and farts.'" I didn't meet Marc, founder of MacroMind and now BroadBand Mechanics, but I'm pretty sure I heard him fart onstage. One of his new ventures, Our Media, looks promising.
I talked with someone at Act3Animation about their short film, Piñata. Not only has it won many awards, including a "critic's choice" at Vidfest, but it has attracted the attention of The Mouse. They didn't even have to send them a copy of the film because Disney claimed to have already acquired one even though there had only been two public screenings at the time. Great strategy: lobby for copyright extensions for corporations then bootleg independent artists.
But enough grumbling, here's are some links (more on these later):

Over-Identifying
Glad Rags: plural noun, informal, meaning formal wear (New Oxford American Dictionary).
I've been spending a lot of time with David Brent lately. The Office just isn't funny when you're unemployed. I'll still laugh out loud occasionally even if I'm alone in my living room (jobless, pantsless, and eating my roommate's salt and vinegar chips). It just isn't comedy, it's a Shakespearean soap opera--with no small amount of tragedy.
Shakespeare, knew hubris and so does Ricky Gervais (he created the show and also plays Brent). When you spend your days slogging through cover letters and sweating through job interviews, a little hubris is bound to ooze onto your best suit, if you're not careful. The key to "selling yourself" is to only boast about what's relevant. This week, I interviewed for a technical position that I didn't get (partly) because I wouldn't shut up about my "creative side." David, why can't I be a corporate cog and an entertainer like you?
